What is the ministry God is calling you to?

Every Christian, no matter who they are or what they do, are called to minister to others and make disciples. (the great commision:"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" Matthew 28:19) No matter your profession, you would have the call by God to serve those around you and tell others about Jesus. That's the purest definition of ministry.

But if that’s the call to ministry, then what is the ministry?

Someone who is called tothe ministry” senses that God wishes for him or her to devote their life to serving in the local church or ministry full time. That will look different for everyone. It could be through being a worship leader, a pastor, a missionary, or in my case- an administrative assistant for the church my family calls home. How did I know that this new position in my life would become my "ministry"? It began with a coffee date with a friend, (our church's administrative pastor), she presented me with an opportunity to serve our church family in a way I would have never thought for myself. In my adult life I not only have been a wife and mother, but for 26 years I was a dental assistant. I have shared this before. Professed dental nerd for life! I was able to witness to patients for many years of that time of my life. Sharing Jesus in that way, I thought was my ministry. And maybe it was for a season. Let's go back to that coffee date. I was not expecting the proposal that was presented to me that day. I came with notes I had jotted down essentially to ask her for prayer and direction, and help making sense of what I had been feeling God tell me. Again, not knowing exactly why I was meeting with her. She explained to me that the church was needing to fill the administrative assistant position, and before they shared the need publicly, she thought of me. Even presented it to church leadership. With a resounding YES, they all agreed I would be the right person for the job. After much prayer, careful consideration and talks with my husband, I gratefully accepted the job. See, sometimes, God will call people into the ministry strictly through other Christians saying they would be great in full time ministry, before they ever considered it themselves!

It has been a learning curve, going from a clinical job to what could be described as a clerical job. But honestly, clerical isn't really an accurate description of what I do. After the first couple of weeks, I came to realize it is so much more than entering transactions into quickbooks, going to the bank, scheduling things to be done in the building etc etc. This new position has become my ministry. The confirmation has come through church family members and leadership reassuring me along the way. I feel confident that I am where God was trying to get me to for the last 12 years. Using my organization skills, my love for people, my love for God, and the communication ability He has blessed me with is now serving me in a way I prayed for for a long time.

So, what has God been calling you to? Are you hesitant to enter into it?

My friends, it's like this: prayer, obedience, and surrender.

Pray for guidance into ministry, what that may look like.

Be obedient when He does call you.

Be willing to fully surrender to all the calling entails.

All this will ensure that you will be fully equipped to fulfill the call to ministry God has given you.

That is going from hearing the call to ministry to being in the ministry.
